The Village Cooperative Learning Center (VCLC) is the Capital Region’s premier homeschool collaborative learning model that places attachment parenting and attachment educating before any other outcome.
When a child’s emotional security is anchored first, learning flourishes naturally. The result? Confident, emotionally resilient students and significantly higher educational engagement.
Rooted in our experience as a second-generation homeschool family and certified teaching, VCLC bridges decades of lived home-education wisdom with educational and developmental empirical insights. As forward thinkers, we are meeting families at a historic crossroads—providing a grounded, academically rich community during the most rapid shift to homeschooling in modern history.
We recognize the nationwide crisis of peer- and media-oriented attachment facing our children. Our mission is to restore natural, healthy socialization: anchoring children to loving parents and trusted adults while offering rich, organic opportunities for peer connection within the learning environment.
Attachment-Driven Classrooms: Our cooperative model organically keeps caregivers present alongside peer interaction. This structure naturally protects against and reverses the disorienting effects of peer orientation—ensuring children take their cultural, moral, and emotional cues from trusted adults rather than immature peer groups.
Homeschool Teaching Mentorship & Attachment Coaching: You don't have to navigate home education alone. We are the only learning environment in the Capital Region offering integrated parent education and one-on-one homeschool teaching mentorship. We provide practical coaching on lesson pacing, curriculum adaptation, and classroom confidence, alongside a clear roadmap for securely attached child-rearing.
Adaptive, Individualized Learning: Borrowing proven methods from adaptive learning spaces for gifted and neurodiverse learners, our classes are never one-size-fits-all. We work alongside parents to tailor learning strategies directly to each child’s unique processing style and developmental readiness.
Specialized Program Leadership: Our leadership structure features seasoned educators and specialized mentors overseeing each specific educational tier—ensuring intentional academic rigor, age-appropriate instruction, and continuous guidance for teaching families at every level.
At The Village Cooperative Learning Center, you enter a cooperative that goes far beyond unstructured playdates and simple extracurriculars. Our curriculum and environment are structured under the guidance of a NYS Certified Special Education Teacher for optimal student growth and success.
Collaborative Learning, Coordinated by Us: We don’t impose a rigid, top-down curriculum. Instead, VCLC provides the operational infrastructure that allows families to collaborate naturally on workshops, book clubs, science labs, and creative arts. Parents guide the activities that inspire their kids, while our administrative team supports you with space planning, supplies coordination, and day-of logistics. You bring the inspiration; we provide the engine that makes it run smoothly.
Core Subject Support: Structured academic support in foundational subjects is readily available upon request to complement your home curriculum.
Everything about VCLC—from our shared amenities to our cooperative schedule—is built to refresh and sustain both students and their caregivers while balancing life and learning.
The Community Lounge: Our center features a vibrant public lounge where parents can plug in and balance work with co-op life. While it is an active, shared community space rather than an exclusive quiet room, parents regularly bring their laptops to work from home, plan upcoming homeschool lessons, or simply relax. Help yourself to complimentary coffee and tea, recharge, and connect with fellow homeschool parents.
On-Site Library, Fitness & Recreation Spaces: Take advantage of our community center's on-site amenities during your downtime:
Library: A quiet, welcoming retreat for finding good reads, diving into homeschool study, or catching up on focused tasks.
Fitness Room: Available for parents looking to fit in a workout, stretch, or recharge while their learners are in session.
Game Room: An engaging space for casual downtime, fun breaks, and interactive connection.
Organic Collaboration, Powered by Administrative Support: A thriving village doesn’t happen by accident—it needs reliable structure. VCLC provides the administrative engine, facility coordination, and daily framework that takes the logistical burden off families. Within this organized space, parents are empowered to collaborate organically, sharing skills and supporting enrichment at their own pace while enjoying dedicated time to work, connect, or relax. You homeschool your children; we handle the operational framework that makes community effortless.
Location: Averill Park, NY (Serving the Greater Capital Region)
Community Oriented: The Village Coopertive Learning Center is already an integral part of the Averill Park/ Sand Lake Community. We have partnered with SHAC to participate in community event days and to provide service learning opportunities for our students.
School Spirit: Being a member of The Village goes far beyond our Wednesday meetings. Throughout the academic year The Village builds school spirit by having a Student Maker's Market, field trips at the conclusion of learning cycles, a Picture Day, a World's Fair, and an End of Year Showcase.
Come see how learning changes when attachment comes first.
Is Village Learning a secular or religious co-op?
To foster a true village community where all families can come together and openly share their culture, we intentionally do not label our program as strictly "secular" or "religious." We are an inclusive community. We are a community-focused, learner-centered environment welcoming to all homeschool families looking for rigorous academics and a cooperative village.
What ages or grade levels do you serve?
We offer cooperative learning programs for early childhood ages 2-5 and elementary through high school.
How does the parent cooperative model work? We believe that parents are a child's first and most important educators. At Village Learning, our model isn't just about volunteering; parents actively help shape and direct our programs. By bringing your unique strengths, ideas, and passions to our cooperative learning environment, you play a hands-on role in designing a flexible, learner-centered experience that truly reflects our community's needs. Together, we build the village our children need to thrive.
